My son broke his tooth?!

Question: My son broke his tooth!?
My son had a really loose tooth and he wanted me to help him get it out!.!.!.so I tied a string around it and he yanked!.!.!.and part of the tooth broke off in his gums!. In hindsight I know it was a bad idea, so please don't berate me for the string!. I thought it would work and I don't have alot of experience with loose teeth (I can't even remember losing my own)!. Anyway, do I need to take him to the dentist tomorrow or will the piece come out on its own!? It's part of the root on his upper front tooth!.
Thanks!
PS!. I feel so bad the tooth fairy will be bringing a ten-spot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If it was very loose, like you say, I kind of doubt that it broke!. Usually those front teeth do not have much of a root once they become wiggly!. Are you sure you're not seeing the tip of the permanent tooth poking through!? I don't want to tell you not to take him to the dentist, in the event that the tooth did actually break!. If he were my son, and it was not painful to him, I would wait a couple of weeks!. Massage that area well when brushing and keep a watch for any infection!. If it were to become infected you would likely see a "pimple-like" bump form above where the tooth came out!. If in 2 weeks the piece has not worked it's way out then make him an appointment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depending on your child age the piece that you see may be the tip of th permanent tooth!. But to answer our question if you did were to just leave the baby piece with time it will resorbs and come out!. But then there is still the possibility it can get infected!. either way have a dentist evaluate your child, and make sure that what is there is a permanent tooth or a piece or the baby tooth!.
