Missing lateral incisors.?!

Question: Missing lateral incisors!.!?
I am missing my lateral incisors, which has caused a little bit of space in my top teeth!. I've gone to two orthodontists!. One said we could just close all the gaps, polish the canines to look better next to the two front teeth, and that would be it!. The second said it would be too difficult to just move them all in, and he wants to make spaces to put in a permanent bridge, or implants (i would choose which)!. I don't want fake teeth!. I want to just move everything in!. But since my hubby is military we had to move away from the ortho that just wanted to move everything in!. Why is this second guy saying it would be too difficult!? And do you think i could find another ortho that would just move everything in!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
oo! oo! I can answer this, because I have this, and so do my two daughters! I have heard all of the same options as you have!. When I was a teen, there were not implants available!. I had the braces to fill the spaces!. My teeth are beautiful, and my kids' orthodontist said he wouldn't have known it by looking at my smile!. I was given all of the options for my 16 year old, and chose the same repair since mine turned out so nice!. (PLUS, implants would cost $8,000!. for the pair)!. Her braces are off now, and her repair is nice, as well!. Daughter number two is just now getting fitted for the same repair!. YES!!! Find the orthodontist who will do it this way!. My teeth are beautiful!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your situation is very common!. It is better, in my opinion, to just move the teeth and close the spaces, also a common solution!. Most people don't even notice that the cuspids are the actual new laterals! Just stress to the ortho that is what you want, don't let him decide for you or bully you into doing something you don't want!. Why would you spend thousands, (yes thousands) of extra dollars when you don't need to!? Stick to your guns, sometimes it is needed to extract two teeth on the bottom so that your bite will line up but it's not always necessary!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My wife had the same problem!. By the time I met her, the canines had naturally moved to close the gaps!. I touched them up with composites and recontouring to make them look like laterals!. She's been happy with it ever since!. She has short broad teeth, and it doesn't look right to me as the canines are quite wide!.
Our youngest daughter had same problem (from Mum, of course!)!. She didn't want the same result as Mum!. She opted to have her teeth moved apart and have implants placed!. A long and difficult path!. Even though the implants were placed by a specialist, he didn't quite position them spot-on, and she will have to go back for some crown-lengthening of the canines in the near future!. Still won't be perfect!.
So, either way has its pros and cons!. If your canines aren't too wide, then you'll probably get a satisfactory result with closure!. If you go for implants, you'll probably get a better result, but it is long and costly!.
Best of luck in whatever you choose!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
