I'm getting braces soon!! Arghh!!?!

Question: I'm getting braces soon!! Arghh!!!?
I'm getting spacers next week and braces the week after!.
I just wanted to know, do they hurt!?
I've got a bit of overbite and my two fangs haven't properly come down yet (they are out of my gum, I just mean they didn't have enough room to come down so they're too high up!)!. I've had teeth taken out so there should be enough room for my teeth to spread out properly as they are all sort of jumbled up at the moment!.
I'm 14 by the way but you can tell me the truth, I'd rather know what to expect!

Thanks !!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi Helen,

braces do NOT hurt at all!.!.!.

For the first few days, they might ache a little, and you won't be able to eat the normal food you like, so eating rice, chips all that will be stopped for soup and so on(only for a week, at least)!.

After you have gotten your braces, the first few days will be tricky, and it will be hard to brush your teeth!. That is why you should keep a brush with you at all times, and wax too!.

Make sure you brush thoroughly, under and upper!.

Making sure that your teeth are brushed properly is very important because then when you take them off, you will have yellow(permanent) marks!.!.!.!.That is why it is recommended you brush your teeth thoroughly twice a day!. and properly!.

Also, you need to floss!.!.!.!.So use orthodontic floss, to get the tiny bits of plaque etc out!.!.!.

If you need anything else, please feel free to ask!.
:P:D

Hope I've helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hey! Braces arent anything to worry about, I had an overbite and they took four teeth out , two from top and two from bottom!

I wont lie to you , yes there is some pain to begin with but after they have been fitted it eases off!.

At end of day the braces are designed to pull your teeth into a different position and you can feel the tightness to begin with but taking painkillers helps alot :)

Every few week or so you have to go and have them tighten, This dosent hurt but it does ache alittle after as its puling that bit tighter again!.

But one that slacks off abit its all dandy!

Only pain straight after fitting and tightening all those weeks inbetween you will be fine :)

Two things don't kiss passionately any one who also braces as it has been known for accidents to happen and get locked together!. Plus keep away from large scrap yards that have those big cranes with an electromagnet as it could pick you up way up into the air!.The dentist will give you all the facts on how look after your teeth, if he forgets then be brave ask him/her before you leave the surgery!.Remember its your body so ask as many questions even write them down before you go in!.PopaWww@Answer-Health@Com

Getting the spacers in may hurt a little bit but the actual putting the braces on doesnt hurt!. They will change out the wires and put in specific wires each time the tightening of those wires can be a bit painful!. Best advise is that you take some tylonal before you go in to help with swelling and pain!. You need to brush vigourously everyday flossing will help and they will have some floss threaders for when you need to do this!. there is a toothbrush with a little brush on the end that will help as well!. and still go in for your cleanings You will also need to massage your gums to prevent the swelling which leads to infection!. My daughter has had hers on for 6 months and she is a pro now at taking care of them Www@Answer-Health@Com

When you first get your spacers in they do kind of hurt!. They just feel like something is between your teeth and it sucks!. Then when you get your braces on they will hurt for about a week!. Just take advil liquid gels and you won't be able to eat solid food either!. You'll eventually get used to them!. Don't worry about brushing, your orthodontist will show and tell you how to brush!. Just brush your teeth regularly and you won't get yellow squares!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

okay i am 14 too and i just got them last year in december and they don't hurt at first but they hurt the day after for a week and it really sucks i suggest You might want to eat soup for a week until it stops hurting and as soon as you get them on take aspirin and than they won't hurt unless you have to get chains and ruberbands (chains are the colors but they go all around your teeth instead of one by one)they hurt for a week because they are the first time i have had chains and ruberbands good luck

=]hope this helps=]Www@Answer-Health@Com

haha fangs!.!.!.those would be incisors!. Anyway yes braces and spacers hurt but the end product is worth the pain!. You'll actually get wierd white spots on your teeth in the places that you don't brush enough!. I had braces for about a year and I just made sure to brush every morning and night and I didn't end up with any white spots!. You'll be fine!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had mine put on in August and I don't see what people were complaining about!. It doesn't really hurt!. It is so quick you can't even tell it is being done!. The only things that caused me discomfort was when they were using the sucky thing to keep the mouth dry and when they put the things that hold the wire in (that does hurt but only for a second)!.

However, saying that, it does hurt after you've had it done!. Just take medicine to help the pain!. Take some before getting it done too!. You can choose your colours, it is cool!.

When you get them tightened it's not painful either, it is just hard to eat!. Hope I helped!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, it didnt hurt when they actually put them on, but after about a hour I couldn't eat properly, only soft stuff, for about 4 days!. But cleaning use a electric toothbrush for 3/4 minutes!. I've only had them on about a month btw!. Im 13!. But they dont go straigh automatically!.
I hope I dont get a gap!Www@Answer-Health@Com

No braces will not do any thing like that to your teeth!.!.if you brush your teeth pretty regular you will not experience yellow circles at all!.!.but you need to brush your teeth as often!. I got mine on nov-19-08
and at first they made my mouth feel very big like i had an over bite!. Well thats good right now but i have to get four teeth pulled i want get them pulled til next year !.but i still have had my braces in!.!.!.

If u get them it'll hurt a bit @ the beginning!.!.!.and if u are eating stuff but NO WORRIES its not that hard!.

Just brush your teeth like everyday!.It won't make any differents!.well its a lil harder but other youth ppl can do that!.so why couldn't you do it!?!?I also have braces and its not that bad at least I have good teeth now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They don't hurt, they just feel a little funny!. Remember to get a little brush and brush in all the little gaps, because if you don't you have brown marks on your teeth when your braces come off!. Good luck :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I personally never had braces but I have been told they are very uncomfortable at first and they can hurt depending on the individual!.

dont worry braces a great thing i had themWww@Answer-Health@Com

it will be worth it in the endWww@Answer-Health@Com

Lets just say!.!.!. don't be fooled!. Your braces won't hurt a bit for the first hour, but stay on a liquid diet!. They will start to hurt eventually!. Don't bite into hard stuff for about 2 weeks when the pain dies down!. Trust me!.!.!. I had to learn the hard way!. I bit into a chocolate truffle the day I got my braces!. GOD, I'VE NEVER FELT WORSE PAIN!

I have had braces for a year now and I will give you a tip!. Listen to your orthodontist and DON'T eat gummy stuff, taffy, or hard stuff!. Chocolate is still okay, but eat it in moderation and brush afterwards!. You will never know how much plaque you really have, so just brush REALLY good every night to get rid of all your food build-up!.

Oh yeah, and when you smile, make sure you don't have food stuck in your brackets or teeth!. That is simply disgusting!. I try never to let that happen!. If you get colors, I suggest black, red, white, and blue!.

Let me know how you feel, because I want you to know that even though I'm not really there with you, I'm here!. Waiting for a response to see how you feel so I can give you more advice!.

OMG- I TOTALLY FORGOT! Wax!.!.!. wax will be your best friend!. Always keep wax with you at all times!.

:D!. Let me know how things go! :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

I got braces when I was in 5th Grade (12 years old)!. I had pretty messed up teeth - an overbite, a tooth that was WAY up in my gums, like your's, my front teeth were bent severely inward, and my bottom teeth couldn't hardly be recognized as teeth!. I was in a lot of pain when they first put them on!. I ate yogurt and ice cream for about 2 weeks straight!. I took A LOT of Tylenol and was miserable for a while!. Every time I had them adjusted I cried!. BUT here's the catch, my mom was worried about me so she spoke with the Orthodontist about me being in pain all the time!. The Doctor told her that children with a smaller body frame were always in a lot more pain!. I weighed about 80 lbs and was skinner than a barbie doll!. My sister, however, got braces when she was 12 and weighed quite a bit more than I did and she was fine!. It didn't bother her hardly at all!. She was eating normal foods 2 days after she got braces!. I don't remember her crying at all!. I guess it just really depends upon how well you take pain and according to the Orthodontist, how big or little your body frame is!. It's not a comfortable feeling!. It by no means feels GOOD!.!.!. but if you're a not a super skinny freak, like I was :) I think you'll be fine!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

well, if u really want to know the truth then here goes!.
yeah, they hurt but they only hurt when the orthodontist tightens them and first puts them on!. when i first got mine, i couldn't eat for 2 days, but i think i was just unlucky because most people i know could eat as soon as they got home! I tried eating carrot the first day!! I HAVE NEVER FELT MORE PAIN IN MY LIFE!!!! oh well that's me for u! its really annoying because you are supposed to brush them 3 times a day ( which means at school ) but nobody does that and now i am really freaked out because you have told me about the whole yellow teeth thing!. well food always gets stuck in ur braces so always have a drink with u or something 4 emergencies! oh, and i got a new nickname from my maths teacher so u may get teased a bit but i got im back! oh, about the brushing, i got a special pack thing including a special brush, mouth wash, pipe cleaners (im not kidding) and stuff so it is like brushing normally!. oh and if you get offered a colour, DO NOT UNDER AND CIRCUMSTANCES GET PINK!! i think it looks disgusting!. get a nice colour or just get plain! good luck and really you get used to them and after a while you realise they are not that bad!! Good Luck!!!!!

p!.s!. listen to the orthadontist aout certain foods cos i have just being chewing toffee and have broken another wire! (he is gunna kill me, this is the 15th wire in the 4 months i have had braces!)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have braces on for about a year now!. I'm 13!.

When your braces get put on, they hurt after they are on!. You will find them really tight and soar!. You will not be able to eat anything hard, or soft!. I suggest Spaghetti 0's!. They are easy to eat in the early stages of braces!.

You will probably get them tightened at least once a month!. Your orthodontist will change the length in wires due to the change and space in your teeth as they progress!. They might be soar for at least 2 days, but they don't hurt!. If you want to ease the pain, take an aspirin, or gargle salt water for a minute and 30 seconds!.

Due to the fact that they are being put on next week, you might be in for a year!. Due to the fact of your overbite, maybe a year and a half!.

Good Luck
