Question: Tmj!.!.!.!. what do i do!? dentist help!!?
okay so i have tmj, i only got diagnosted with it about a month ago,and ive had it for atleast a year that i can remember!. im going back to the ortho next week, cuz my primary dentist looks like he has no idea wat tmj is, she wants to make me a night guard!.!? does anyone have that for tmj, and does it help!? or what other option should i try to help this, and is tmj ever cured!? or do you always have it for the rest of your life!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

TMJ or more appropriately TMD (temporomandibular disorder) is a complex thing!. Generally speaking, the reason the splint is made is because the muscles are tensing/spasming and causing pain!. In patients where this is the primary problem, about 80% will experience relief with a splint!.
Other times splints will be used to relieve pressure on the joint!.
TMD is rarely cured!. The splints help reduce the pain and are generally a good approach!. Oftentimes the side effects of surgery or full-mouth reconstruction options can be worse than the "cure!."
