Tooth problem/Exposed Dentin?!

Question: Tooth problem/Exposed Dentin!?
Well, a couple years ago I noticed my canine tooth had a yellow color to it from halfway down to the gums!.!.somehow I didn't notice it what it was unti a couple months ago when I looked closer!. I think it may have been caused by harsh brushing!.!.

It looks as though the enamel has broken/decayed off that part of the tooth and it's very sensitive to touch and a bit to cold/warm/air!.

I can see the rough edges of the enamel where it starts so I figure it's exposed dentin!. I didn't have any dental insurance until this week so I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow!.

What will the dentist likely do about it!? Will he know/care about it's sensitivity and not tap it with tools or does he need to!? Will fixing it be very painful!?

Answers:
Treatment will depend on how severe your problem is!. Your dentist will need to take x-rays of your tooth to make sure that bacteria hasn't made it into your pulp chamber, and root canal!. If it has then most likely he/she will need to perform a root canal, which is a procedure where they basically file out the inside of your tooth in order to remove all the decay and contaminated tissue!. They will then fill this area and the original hole with a composite material that mimics your natural tooth!.
If you don't need a root canal, your dentist will still fill in the spot where you have exposed dentin!. There will be some pain associated with this procedure as your teeth are living organs, with their own blood and nerve supply!. Your dentist cares about your well-being and will do everything in his/her power to minimize pain!. They start by applying a local numbing agent to the gums around your tooth, this is so that the shot he needs to give you is less painful!. You will most likely feel a little pinch and then the pain will be over!. During the procedure you will feel some pressure but this shouldn't be associated with any pain!. After the shots have worn off, your mouth may be a little sore but its nothing that some motrin won't take care of!.
If your worried about the pain, let the dentist know ahead of time that it is very sensitive and painful!. They will take extra care to treat you as gently as possible!. If you have further questions, feel free to email me!. Good luck and take care!Www@Answer-Health@Com
