What makes dental braces hurt when you get them on the first day?!

Question: What makes dental braces hurt when you get them on the first day!?
I am VERY excited to announce that I am getting dental braces in early 2009 (no date decided yet)! I wanted to find out!.!.!.!. What makes your dental braces hurt "like h*ll" on the first day that you get them/the day you get them!? Is it keeping your mouth open for so long!? Is it the unusual feel in your mouth that you suddenly feel!? Is it the tightness of the wires!? I don't understand!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your teeth are held in the bone by a ligament all around the root of each tooth!. Each tooth is slightly mobile due to this ligament!. (try it, you can wiggle your teeth slightly with your fingers!.)
When the braces are put on and tightened, the teeth are slightly moved, stretching or compressing the ligament, depending on the direction of pressure!. It is not normal to have your teeth moved like this and so it gets sore!. Soon the bone is removed from around the tooth in the direction of the pressure and it grows behind the tooth!. This way the tooth can slowly move, in some cases fairly far!.
I found that it is wise to take ibuprophen an hour before your appointment (with food) and then continue to take it for the next day or so!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well!.!.
when i first got minee
they hurt soo bad
cause they tighten the wires and your teeth get really sore
becuase your teeth are getting pulled a different way
and it feels really weird art first!.
Really!.!. your teeth ache badly!.
People say to try to use Tylenol and Advil to help ease the pain!.!.
but personally that did absolutley nothing for me!.!.
so what i did was i sucked on ice pops and ice to numb my teeth!.
i still felt it but it was less pain!.
After a while of having braces, and going back to the orthodontist, you kinda get used to the feeling!.
But the pain only stays for about 2 or 3 days!.

If your good at holding in pain,
im sure you will be fine ! :)

Good luckk with the braces!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

lol, it is all of the above
keeping your mouth opened long makes ur face
chapped
and the wires are tight and sharp and poke the inside of ur mouth
and it feels very unusual

but its worth it lol
i dont mean to scare u

Its the tightness of the wires!. Your teeth are only just starting to be moved into their proper place so its a little sore!.
Mine didnt hurt nearly half as much as i expected them to thou :)
Just avoid chewing on hard food :P

Thou holding ur mouth open for long periods of time isnt exactly fun either -_-Www@Answer-Health@Com

Whoever told you it hurt that bad was just trying to scare you, they might be a little sore but I would say "hurt like hell" and yes its the tightness of the wires makes your gums and teeth just kind of sore and achy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I really don't know from experience, but I would assume that it's from the tightness of the braces!. Your teeth are getting pushed/pulled in a direction they normally aren't going!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I got mine yesterday and also got a distal jet yesterday mine hurt so bad I think its because they are already moving your teeth and its not a normal thing to have in you mouth!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.wish you the best of luck Morgan
