Can doctors/dentists operate on you without your consent?!

Question: Can doctors/dentists operate on you without your consent!?
I'm not talking life/death operations!.
My wisdom teeth need to come out, and I want them out!. But they also want to pull a tooth that is behind my other teeth!. It doesn't hurt, I never had problems with it, and it doesn't even look bad!.
The rest of my teeth are crooked, but I love my smile!. I love my teeth!.
The Ortho Surgeon says he is taking out that tooth when he removes my wisdom teeth!. Can he do that if I don't want him to!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If you tell him: You do not have my consent on pulling out my teeth!. They will most likley try to console you into doing so!.!. although no they usually cannot do so!. They have to tell you what they are doing!. Its not a life or death sitch so you should be good!. If the tooth behind the other tooth is unhealthy you may want it taken out, along with the wisdom teeth!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No he can not remove the tooth without your permission!. I went to the Dentist once and the dentist assistant made the comment that "oh you have your wisdom tooth, would you like us to remove them" and I told her no, there was nothing wrong with them and I had not come into the office for nothing other than to have my teeth cleaned!. Alot of the time it just means they can make more money for something like extracting teeth!. I repeat he can not remove a tooth without your consent, if he insist go see another Dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

in my opinion, they are going to charge you for each tooth they extract!. if you don't consent to that particular tooth being extracted then they can't really bill you for it!? if i were you, i would hear him out why he believes that tooth needs to be extracted as you did not provide that info!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You know, I know all these people on here are saying no, he can't however, when I got my bottom wisdom teeth pulled I did not want my top ones out as they had never given me any problems!. Well when I woke up from surgery guess what was missing!? Yep my top wisdom teeth!. Even though I told him I did not want them removed he did it anyway!. I didn't do anything about it!.!.!.seemed stupid to waste my timeWww@Answer-Health@Com

No he can't legally do anything w/o your consent!. I'd say let him do the procedure and make sure you specifically tell him you don't want that particular tooth taken out and make sure you have someone there to witness it!. And if he does take it out, sue him and become rich!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No they cant!. They need your permission to do any operation!. If you are young, your parents permission!. If you dont agree with the dentists choice then talk to your parents about it!. (if your young)

Hope i helped =]Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, HOWEVER, there will be a reason why he wants to take the other tooth out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are an adult, I am pretty sure he can't!. But he could decline to operate at all if he strongly disagrees with you about it!.

That said, I suspect that if you ask him why the other tooth has to come out, you will probably find that, if it doesn't, it is likely to drift slowly in an undesirable direction, once it is deprived of the support of the wisdom teeth, or that there is some other reason why it would be better removed now!. You don't make it clear just what the relation of this tooth is to your wisdom teeth!. Or is it hiding behind some of your other teeth where it cannot be seen!?

I myself was surprised when I was told that isolated teeth can drift, or that a tooth that seems unrelated to a problem can need to come out because at some future point it is bound to have a bad effect on the rest!.

But if your wisdom teeth are coming out for medical, and not cosmetic, reasons, and you are greatly attached to the idea of having crooked teeth, and the only reason the orthodontist wants to pull the tooth in question is to correct the crookedness, then you would have more reason to fight for it!.

Do you really *prefer* crooked teeth to straight ones, though!? And is this tooth in a position where it has another tooth above (or below) it that meets it when you bite, so that it is really doing a job!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
