Dental Agony- any advice, dry socket etc?!

Question: Dental Agony- any advice, dry socket etc!?
A week ago I went to the dentist as I was having severe toothache!. I was not registered and had to go to an emergency practice!. When I arrived, I pointed to the area where the pain was occuring, without any tests or x-rays, the dentist automatically removed a cracked tooth, which may I note had been cracked for over 2 years and I had no pain!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.the tooth was extracted and she told me the adjacent tooth to the extraction site had a large cavity and may possibly need root canal! She put a small dressing on the adjacent tooth and sent me on my way with no additional instructions!. I requested an app to have the adjacent tooth looked at and was told no apps till after Xmas!.

2 days after exraction, the pain was unbelievable and I had terrible swollen glands and fever with pain running into my ear!. I therefore re-contacted dentist, was brought in, quick look in mouth and told I had an infection and was given antibiotics! Took the antibitiocs faithfully and pain not relieving, Went back on last day of antibiotics and told I had "dry socket" which I have had before, he then never even irrigated the socket (which I found to be strange), he just packed it with the dressing and was going to send me on my way!. I then asked if infection had cleared and he said "no" so I asked for more antibiotics which he prescribed!. I have now been on these antibiotics for 2 days and the pain is getting worse and seems to be focused on the adjacent tooth to the extraction site!. The pressure behind the adjacent tooth is unbelievable and its very painful when I bite down!.

This pain is agonising and with a week to Xmas, I am not sure what to do next!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

While it is quite possible you do have dry socket, if there is such a large cavity on the tooth next to it, that also could be the source, and needs to be address if the antibiotics aren't working!. The "socket packing" should have helped if it were dry socket!. I agree with the others, go see another dentist, tell them of the antibiotics you've been taking and what has gone on!. They will probably recommend any or all of the following: stronger/different antibiotics, pull other tooth, start root-canal on other tooth to get the infection out of it!. A simple xray will let them know if the other tooth is involved!. But it sounds like seeing another dentist may help, it will be tough to get in anywhere this time of year, but if you are in pain, they must at least see you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do to a different dentist!. The one you are seeing obviously doesn't want to have too much to do before Christmas!. You need to get an emergency appointment with someone else!. If the antibiotics aren't working they need to find the cause of the infection!. If you have to go to an ER and see what they say!. Maybe they can at least hook you up with another dentist before the holidays!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Go see another dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
