Deep cleaning question?!

Question: Deep cleaning question!?
My husband went to the dentist last night for the first time in 4 years!. He hasn't taken that great of care of his teeth, so they had to do a deep cleaning where they go under your gums and clean the roots or something!? He said it was pretty painful!. Well I haven't been to the dentist in 3 years, but I do take much better care of my teeth than my husband has!. What are the chances of me needing the same thing done & how do they decide if you need a deep cleaning or just a regular one!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It will depend upon the health of your gums!. The dentist or hygienist will take measurements of your gums to determine if you have gum disease!. The measurements see if the teeth have lost bone support which happens when one has gum disease!. They will also see if the gums are swollen and if there is heavy tartar or not!. If you do not have bone loss, the gums are not swollen, there is light tartar present then you will not need a deep cleaning!. I can't tell your chances without seeing you but this is what factors into the dentist decision to do the deep cleaning or not!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all it is the amount of plaque your body makes the determine!. Sometime no matter how often you clean your teeth your body just makes lots of plaque on your teeth!. I have seen teeth that have never been cleaned only need a reg!. cleaning!. If you feel like your teeth are clean you might be ok!. Make sure and floss and try peroxide solution , and listorine as soon as you get an appt!.this helps get your gums toughened up for the cleaning!. Try warm salt water afterwards!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Personaly, i get mine cleaned 4 times a year, so it's a breeze, but when i have let it go, it can be unpleasant, as they take an instrument and go under the gums to scrape the plaque off, preventing problems!. i went to 2 sites(below)!.!.excellent!.!.that explain you can get freezing thru a gel or sometimes a local, if it's that painful!.
*Important-DO IT! anyway!!!!.!.i just got dentures due to steroids, food never tastes the same, dentures move around, prior to dentures, you get billed exorbitant fee's for fixing teeth, dentures being the last resort!.!.my parents are 85 and still have great teeth! You will probably find it tender, especially certain teeth, but most hygenists are very aware of your discomfort level, and behave accordingly!.!.though you may have to go more often for awhile to 'catch up'! here's the info:
What's the difference between a routine dental cleaning and a deep cleaning!?
Part of getting good dental care is understanding dental health terms!. For example, there's a great deal of difference between a routine cleaning (Prophylaxis) and a deep cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing)!.
A prophylaxis is a regular cleaning, meaning it is preventive dental care, the purpose of which is to keep teeth and oral tissues in a healthy state by removing calculus, plaque, and common stains!. This procedure typically is performed twice a year, but individual patient needs vary, and it may be necessary more frequently for some patients!. A Registered Dental Hygienist or your dentist can provide this service!. Typically, this procedure is competed in one appointment, but additional time may be required for some patients to get optimal dental care!.
A deep cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing) is a therapeutic procedure intended as a component of dental care designed to avoid periodontal disease!.

Periodontal disease is caused by a build up of calculus, plaque, and stain on the crowns and root surfaces of teeth, can begin as localized (limited) gingival inflammation, and progress to serious disease that results in major damage to the soft tissue and the bone that supports the teeth!. Left untreated, this disease progresses to the ultimate loss of teeth!.
In periodontal disease, gingival tissue may detach (pull away) from teeth, and periodontal pockets form!. Scaling and Root Planing is intended to provide a healthy tissue environment in which tissues re-adapt to normal tooth surfaces!.
If you think you need more dental care, you may want to think about some kind of dental plan benefits to help reduce your costs!. Dental discount plans or dental insurance may be options to consider if you are looking for affordable dental care!. A dental discount plan is not insurance!. Make sure to check the plan benefits to see what savings you could receive on routine cleanings (prophylaxis) or deep cleanings (scaling and root planning)!. It's also important to check on any waiting period or limitations on pre-existing conditions before you purchase a plan!.

What is Deep Cleaning (Deep Scaling & Root Planing)!?
If plaque and tartar is left on the teeth, as we mentioned before, it provides the right conditions for bacteria to thrive!. The bacteria irritate the gums, which means that they bleed more easily!. You may notice this if you are brushing your teeth, or eating, and sometimes your gums may bleed a bit!. This is the early stage of gum disease called gingivitis!. If you have gingivitis, your dentist or hygienist will clean your teeth by scaling and polishing them!. They may also recommend an antiseptic mouthwash containing chlorhexidine (e!. g!. Corsodyl in the U!.K!.), and show you how to brush and floss your teeth effectively!. Most adults have some degree of gum disease!.
If gingivitis not treated and nothing is done about it, the inflammation will work its way down towards the foundations of the tooth causing a "periodontal pocket"!. Again, within the confines of the pocket, the conditions are such that the bacteria can have a right old party, and cause more damage!.

Gum disease can break down the support (bone) structures of the teeth, so that eventually, they will become loose!. The problem is that until it gets quite severe, the person often has no symptoms!. Sadly, the damage to the support structures of the teeth is irreversible!. The good news is that if gum disease is caught in time, its progression can be halted and improved upon, and that is the key!.
To stop gum disease from progressing, your dentist may advise periodontal therapy, or deep cleaning!. This gets rid of the bacteria in the pocket and provides the necessary conditions for healing to occur!.

What is the difference between an ordinary cleaning and deep cleaning!?
There is some confusion about the difference between scaling and root planing!. Scaling is basically the process of removing dental tartar from the surfaces of the teeth (see dental cleanings)!. Root planing is the process of smoothening the root surfaces and removing any infected tooth structureWww@Answer-Health@Com
