From the way you describe it, I am not sure if you mean the kind that you wear from tooth to tooth, or the kind that holds the wire in!. In any case, if you have a locking hemostat at home, grab the elastic with the hemostat and gently re-attach it the way it was on, then unclick it and let it go!.
