The temporomandibular joint is a very complex joint!. Popping occurs when the disc of the joint does not move properly!. It's comparable to a knee cap that is out of place!. This noise is common, but if you are experiencing pain or lack of function (can't open all the way or jaw gets stuck open) you may need some additional treatment!. Disfunction of this joint is called "Temporomandibular joint disorder"!.

The first treatment is usually some sort of occlusal splint or night guard!. This places the jaw in a relaxed position which can help relax muscles and releive tension!. Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and have this splint fabricatd for you!.

If this doesn't help there are some medications and surgeries which are the next step for advanced cases!. But surgeries most of the time have side effects that are poor, so surgery is really avoided if at all possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

wow!.!.that happened to me once as well but it wasn't for that long!. i couldn't open my mouth wide enough to feed myself!. I asked my dentist, he said that it only depends on how you open your mouth!. so, unfortunately i really don't know!. ***my jaw cracking went away naturally!.***Www@Answer-Health@Com
