Is it possible to brush your teeth too well?!

Question: Is it possible to brush your teeth too well!?
I used to only brush my teeth for a little bit twice a day, and I'd never gotten a cavity!. A few weeks ago I went to the dentist and had a lot of plaque and almost a cavity!.

Since then I've been brushing my teeth 3 times a day for 4 minutes each, and my teeth feel really smooth and clean, but my gums started hurting and this sticky, stringy gross stuff is falling off my inside cheeks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can over brush you teeth and wear down the enamel!.!.!.

Always use the toothbrushes labeled "soft"!.!.!. it will slove that problem!.

Edit: How come i got a thumbs down and the guy below me got a thumbs up for saying the same thing in his first line!?!?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can in fact brush your teeth too heavily and/or too much!. You can destroy your tooth enamel or push you gums up!.

Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day is a good practice!. However, you should brush your teeth gently!. Rubbing the toothbrush as hard as you can against your teeth or brushing up and down against your gums can be very damaging in the long term!. If you're brushing too hard, you'll notice enamel stripping, which looks like your teeth turning yellow!. It looks like you drink too much soda or tea!. If you're brushing up against your gums, your gums can weaken and recede!.

So, to repeat (because longer answers seem to always get better ratings for some reason): YES!. Brushing your teeth too hard, for too long, or in the the wrong way can and will cause harm to your teeth and gums!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i can tell you from experience that the stringy stuff coming off is actually your gums and skin type of stuff from your cheeks because you are brushing way too much!. i was brought up to scrub your teeth to keep them healthy and now i have receding gums and extreme sensitivity!. my teeth always hurt and the root is exposed!. i also have to use a baby tooth brush!.
so if i were you, dont brush more than 3 times a day!. if you use a spin brush 1 minute each time is enough!. and dont scrub too hard!.

Well that is easy! The reason they are smooth is because they are brushed really good!. So good job! The reason the gross stuff is coming out or for my words dirt is because their not used to being brush 3 times a day for 4mins!. I promise that will go away soon!. Just keep brushing how you are! If you need any more questions I am a dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
