it honestly depends on your mouth!. Whats happens is the tarter stays on your teeth too long and you get a harder build up of plaque!. this gets under your gums and can't be reached by a tooth brush!. Over time your gums start to pull away from the teeth and bone and caused what the dentist call pockets!. They can vary in depth!. the deeper the pocket the harder to clean!. If the plaque is just slightly below the gum line then you could probably do the entire mouth with no anesthetic!. If you have deeper pockets then probably only 1/2 of your mouth at a time and you may need to get numb!. Either way it will just be a little tender, they should give you an antibacterial rinse that will heal your gums faster!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Generally they do only about 1/4 of your mouth if you are talking about root planning!. However I thought it hurt like hell even with meds but my wife did it with nothing and did her whole mouth in one sitting that lasted two hours!. It depends on the skill of the hygienist doing the torture because I've done it about 10 years ago in two sittings of one hour each but the last time, 2 years ago, was 4 sessions and she almost had a glee about her that scared the hell out of me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
You can request the doc numb you first!. You will be tender afterwards so plan to take ibuprofen and warm salt water rinses will also help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I have bad gums so I get the "deep cleaning" 3 or 4 times a year!. Depends on your pain threshold but I don't have much problem with it and I don't use any pain management!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
