Question: Plastic retainers, will they ever go away!? Best answer!?
When will i know when i can stop wearing my annoying plastic retainers!?

I got my braces removed about a month ago and the dentist told me to wear the retainers for 6 months only at night, and then said after that to wear them every other day!.!.Then he told me he still wore his out of habit!.!.!.and hes like!.!.old!.!.so!.!.

I was just wondering when i will be able to stop wearing them completely, and if there is any way to know for sure!. I obviously don't want my teeth to move after all the trouble Ive gone through to make them straight!.!.

In my Professional opinion 18 months is more the standard length of time for wearing ratainers at night, depending on individual cases!. even after that the teeth still can move and some profesionals think that retention atleast one night a week for the rest of your life is required to keep your teeth in the desired position forever!. basic rule of thumb, if the retainer feels tight you need to wear it more often!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My orthodontist said I'd wear one always!. Believe it or not, teeth have "memory" and they will return to their original, pre-braces position!. He said if you had only one tooth and moved it with braces to the other side, it would eventually make it's way back! Sorry to tell you that!. I still wear mine occasionally!. My bottom teeth try to stray from their straigh position a bit if I go too long without it!. You get used to it!. It soon will be no big deal!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've had my braces off for three years and my retainer eventually got a ton of holes in it!. I figured I could stp wearing it but my orthodontist made me a new one!. So the best thing is to wear it at least every other night for about 1 year, then wear it once a week the 2nd year!. I'm in my third year and it was recommended to me to wear it only every 10 days or so!. It's really worth the hassle in the long run, and it sure beats every night! My boyfriend stopped wearing his after about a year and his teeth shifted a little so be careful! Basically keep it regular and make sure it fits!. If you notice particular tightness it may mean your teeth are shifting which is a sign to see your ortho and start wearing your retainer every day again!.
Hope I helped!Www@Answer-Health@Com
