Has this happened to you at the dentist?!

Question: Has this happened to you at the dentist!?
True story, happened today!.

I have just got back from the dentist to have a tooth extracted!. the tooth is about the 4th one from the front on the bottom right!.

The dentist tried to numb the area, gave me 2 needles!. This didn't work!. She then gave me a further 2 needles, this didn't work!. She then gave me a needle as what she described "directly into the bone"!. This also failed!. She then gave me another needle directly into the tooth, you guessed it - didn't work!. This went on and on with more and more needles!. In the end, I had gas but could feel the extraction as if there were no numbing (only part of my mouth that was numb was my bottom lip, the top of my gum and some of my cheek)!. I'm no dentist, but to me it felt like it she was snapping it from the jaw bone something!. She ended up using a drill to try and extract the final broken part then cut some of my gum away!. I am so sore right now!. I kept thinking that I was in a nightmare!.

Has anyone had a similar experience where the numbing didn't take effect (even after 60 mins)!. can anyone explain why the numbing didn't take effect!? I am I at risk of feeling the pain if I had a medical operation or was this just a once-off thing!?!?!?

No wonder I hate going to the dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If the tooth was infected before hand this could be the reason!. Local anaesthetic doesn't work well in areas where there is infection!. It is due to the acidity of the tissue!. It sounds as though your dentist tried inter-ligamentary technique aswell as directly into the bone, straight into the nerve supply!.!. I have come across this myself many times in the surgery I work in as a nurse!.
It is quite common for the tooth to break and come out in pieces, therefore a surgical handpiece is needed to drill out the remaining root fragments!.
If you were to have the procedure under a general anaesthetic, where you are asleep, you would not feel a thing and it often much more pleasant than the trauma of not being able to "Numb up"!.
It sounds terrible, and I must admit they usually are a lot more straight forward than that, unfortunately your case was just unlucky!.
Hope this helps explain it a little better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

not really!.!.!.but i can understand!.!.!.everyone hate to visit a dentist two of my (cousin) brother are dentist and even they themselves feel the same!. there is a poem on how uncomfortable a dentist chair is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

happened to me once and the dentist was like "well, can you deal with the pain for a couple minutes!?"Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have a bad dentist!. That must have been hell and she surely did not know what she was doing!. Find another dentist!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Oh no that sounds like a terrible experience!
I was at the dentist lst week and ended up getting 3 injections as the area wouldnt freeze!. In the end he filled the tooth and it was really sore when he did it : (
The parts of my mouth that did freeze were frozen for hours, and the worst part is my tooth is sore now and it wasn't before!!!

I'm avoiding going back as I don't want to get my mouth frozen again!.

Take regular pain relief and don't drink anything too hot until you are sure that you can feel it and that its stopped bleeding!. Also don't suck a straw or anything as that Unplugs the hole where your tooth was and can cause it too bleed even longer!.

Hope this helps : )Www@Answer-Health@Com

yeah, happened to me too!. but she took a higher dose after 3 injections didn't work and gave me two more!.!. then it felt partially numb!. not completely though!.!.!.
so I had to take the pain as well, not as much as you though!.!.!.
I already thought I am weird, but it feels better hearing same or similar stories from others as well!.

somebody explained me once that it's hard to numb a tooth and its nerves because you have to aim correctly into certain points which are not at the same spot for every person!.!.!. so maybe she just didn't hit the right spots!?

I'm not a dentist but it sounded quite reasonable to me!.

I hope you'll feel better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry to hear that and hope you're okay now!.

It happened to me once last year but that was because the gum wouldn't freeze properly due to an infection, and so the anesthetic didn't work!. It was for root canal work and has he drilled into the tooth I felt sharp pain!. He had some more anesthetic that he immediatley put striaght into the tooth canal though, and worked within seconds, so I only actually felt a couple osf seconds of pain!. Anyway for the second time I went to finish the prcedure he used what is called a blocker I think!. This really froze it well, and I felt nothing!.

As I said mine was due to infection under the tooth though, and he said this can make it difficult to numb!. I'm frightened of dentists although I got regular for check ups and cleaning!. I get some valium from my doctor to take before any treatment anyway, and that helps relax me!. My dentist is good though and that's the only time I ever felt pain, and only briefly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This happened to me as well!.!.I recently had my teeth extracted, it was one of the molars, 2nd from the back!. After the dentist injected the anesthetic (about 3), he gave me a 15 minutes break for the area to numb properly!. Of course, he informed me beforehand that even though it might be numb, there will still be discomfort when he is extracting the tooth!. And boy was it painful!. The dentist was trying his best to pull out the tooth and I think he kept stopping once in a while to cut the gum around the tooth!. I was clenching my hands together but the nurse kept asking me to relax!.!.!.hey, how am I supposed to relax when I feel as if my jaw was going to break! Thank goodness, I had high pain tolerance but this is an experience I will never forget!. I'm making sure to take care of my precious teeth now!. Don't have regrets later on >!.<Www@Answer-Health@Com
