Has anyone had a Apicectomy or know much about them?!

Question: Has anyone had a Apicectomy or know much about them!?
I had an infection appeared in the gum around the end of last summer and had to have root canal on a tooth!. Anyway since then I've been going to my dentist having xrays to see if I needed referring to hospital to have it removed!.

I'm now being refered to the hospital because the dentist thinks it's a cysy and it won't go away!. He said they cut it out from around the tooth and seal the tooth roots so they don't extract the tooth!. Anyway I'm worried about it, and do they use sedatives if you're nervous about it !?Www@Answer-Health@Com

APICOECTOMY:
This is usually a procedure performed by an ENDODONTIST!. Endodontists are dentists who have received years of additional training for special procedures like apicoectomies!. I'm not an endodontist (endo guys correct me if I'm wrong), but it can take up to a year to see radiographic healing of a periapical lesion!. Since you had the root canal performed on this tooth about 6 months ago, it seems a little pre-mature to me!. So are there any other findings or symptoms that your dentist has mentioned to justify this treatment!? Does it hurt!?

What is a periapical cyst!?
When a tooth is infected and infection spreads to the jaw bone it forms a little cavity in the bone!. Typically after root canal treatment the little cavity heals complely!. However, occasionally the infection leads the the formation of a cyst!. Cysts are like a bubble of skin tissue filled with fluid!. If not removed these cysts can lead to complications which can cause the tooth to be lost!. Therefore they are typically removed via the Apicectomy procedure!.

What is the apicectomy surgery like!?
This is an outpatient surgery which can take 1-2 hours!. If you are anxious you could talk to your doctor about sedation options!. If you want some more info see the website below!. Pain and swelling following the surgery may take 5-7 days to go away!. Your doctor can prescribe you medication which will make sure you are comfortable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Of course sedation is available!. You need but ask!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
