i Have a Pain in my tooth!?!

Question: I Have a Pain in my tooth!?
It's not hurting really bad yet, but fear it will. as the pain has gradually got worse. it's a dull pain at the moment. I know i'm gonna have to visit the dentist but as anyone got any idea what it could be, and will i need it pulled, i don't care about getting it removed, but what are the steps taken when i visit my dentist?

Hello
Dentists will only pull a tooth if they have no other options as pulling teeth can cause problems, such as other teeth moving out of place etc. Sounds like either you need a filling ( cavity) or you may need a root canal. When you visit your dentist they will firstly examine your teeth and then x ray your teeth to see if there are any infections the eye cannot see. They will then know how to treat it. A filling is normally pretty straight forward and done in 1 appointment and you will get an injection to numb your tooth. They then drill away the decay from your tooth and then fill it with a filling( normally tooth coloured).

If the decay is deeper you will probably need a root canal. You normally need 2 appointments for this. First one they will drill into your tooth once you have had a numbing injection and then clean out your root canals with small files. It normally takes around 1 hour. They then temp fill your tooth and you then have to go back about 2 weeks later. During your second appointment they will x ray your tooth to check all infection is gone, then either fill it with a filling or place a crown on it. If you need a crown, you may have to have a 3rd visit as they have to take impressions of your tooth and send them away for your crown to be made.

Having a crown fitted is easy though and I am getting mine fitted in 2 days time( after wearing a temp crown for 2 weeks). Takes about 10 minutes.

Whatever you need doing do not worry as you will be numbed up first and it should not hurt.

The faster you see your dentist, the better as the decay or infection can be stopped before it gets worse. So please make an appointment asap as I have made this mistake before by ignoring tooth pain and then needed root canals. I now get to the dentists asap with any tooth pain. Catch it early and it will be easy to treat.

Good luck

myself as I have had major dental work done.

it could be an underlying decay, infection, abscess or start thereof.

when you get to the dentist, soon, i hope. they will check all your teeth, tap them, poke, prod, tap and scrape around to see if there is anything obvious and if not they may take an xray which could reveal the problem and depending on what they find they may put you on a course of antibiotics for a short time to clear any infection or abscess and eventually, after they feel that is fixed, or the same day if they don't diagnose an abscess or infection they will drill and fill it

a lot depends on what they find.

good luck and make an appointment as soon as possible because the longer you leave it the worse it could get.

When you drink or eat certain things, do you notice the pain worsening?

Oragel can be found in any drugstore and there's nothing much to it. It's a gel like substance that numbs the gum and surrounding area, making life more bearable.

Pending on what the true underlying issue is, you may not have to get it pulled.

Is it your molar that is bothering you? Your premolar? Your incisors?

If possible (if it doesn't cause too much pain), brush your teeth with hot water instead of cold. This will soften your toothbrush bristles, thus making the whole endeavor less painful. Even though brushing your teeth may be painful, it's necessary and might help with easing the pain.

If the pain persists for more than 3 days, consult your dentist. It's not most exciting route but it's certainly the best. Being in pain is no fun!

I really hope I've helped

I also hope that your chompers are o.k!

Cheers!

It could be a cavity or maybe you need a root canal because the cavity went to deep into your root. Once that happens the dentist has to pull it witch is the cheaper option or they can save it by performing a root canal. When you go to the dentist they'll determine what's the problem through an x-ray of your mouth, teeth or gum in the area where the pain is.

You may just have an infection and need antibiotics.the sooner you go, the less the damage. Just tell the dentist which tooth and describe the pain. She will do the rest.

you should go to doctors immediately.

a toothache
