Should a replacement retainer hurt?!

Question: Should a replacement retainer hurt?
I have been wearing my retainer faithfully at night for a few years, and recently noticed a small hole in it from chewing. I asked my current dentist to make me a new one, which he did. However, it didn't feel right when I put it on-strange pressure on two teeth, and I couldn't tell if it was on or not, didn't feel like it. They said to try it out and if there were problems, to come back. Well, I wore it one night, and woke up in pain. It felt like all my teeth were being forced backwards. I had to switch back to my old retainer because I was worried that my teeth were going to loosen with the way I felt. Is this normal? I never took a night off from my retainer, and my old one still fits, so my teeth should not have shifted any,

Answers:

How long did it take for you to get the new retainer? Did you stop wearing it inbetween? It's possible they may have made a mistake while making the new one. I'd contact your orthodontist as soon as you can.

doesnt sound right to me. it should fit exactly like your old one. But i have a question for you now... does insurance cover a new one? or do they cost alot? i hadnt worn mine in a while and my teeth shifted and my old one doesnt fit. so i asked my dentist to make me a new one but i havent told my parents yet. so im just wondering if i should expect to be yelled at when they get a $400 bill? (or ya know, some ridiculous price)
