I just got a filling in my molar today and I'm worried that...?!
Question: I just got a filling in my molar today and I'm worried that...?
Answers:
It depends on the type of filling you had. If you had a composite, or white, filling then you can eat normally right away. If you had an amalgam, or silver, filling you need to wait 30 minutes before eating anything at all and 24 hours before eating anything hard.
The silver filling does not "dry" as stated in other posts. Rather it undergoes a chemical reaction where the metals bind together. It takes several hours for the reaction to mature.
I am a dentist
You should have no problems eating on it. You might find that the tooth is a bit more sensitive for a couple of days, that is normal. You may also find that the surface of the filling wears down a little bit but again that is normal.
Just be careful for a couple of days with hot or cold things, or crunchy things, because they may cause a bit of sensitivity. Other than that just eat as normal.
It really depends on whether you got a metal filling or an enamel filling... however after about 1 - 2 hours it will have completely dried and you can eat anything you want. you will still feel pressure, but that should go in a few hours as well.
A few years ago when I got my first and only fillings (4 of them) I think I had to wait an hour or so before eating, and nothing sticky for a few days.
Well
you should wait about 1-2 hours before eating at all because it will still be not dried properly
Yeah your fine to eat after like 30 minutes. Believe me, I'm one of those people that's had heaps of fillings
