How long do you have to be bulimic for your dentist to notice?!

Answers:

It all depends on the oral health of the individual.

Excessive vomiting allows the strong acids from the stomach to "erode" and upset the esophagus, also damaging the enamel on ones teeth (as you know).

If the individual is regularly going to their dentist, he or she will know the "ins and outs" of their patients mouth. The color of the gums and the color of the uvula will also play a factor.

Hair, nails, skin and overall health will be more of a warning sign to others than to your doctor.

Hair will break easy and be uber hard to manage. Nails will crack and possibly fall off (should the disorder continue for any stent of time). Basically, having a dentist tell their patient that they know something is going on is the least of the individuals warnings. Common everyday people will see these changes.
