When can I go back to college after dental implants?!

Question: When can I go back to college after dental implants?
I have 2 missing front teeth from trauma when I was younger and I currently wear a flipper. I don't have any time to get dental implants because I'm in college and will be taking summer classes, but it needs to be done.

Is there swelling after the implants are in? The surgery, do they just put the rod in and not the tooth? If so, can I still wear my flipper before the permanent tooth is placed? Would I need to take days off from college (it will be too embarrassing to smile with no front teeth)?

Thank you.

It really depends on your body and how fast it heals and your own pain tolerance as to when you'll be able to go back to school. I had 16 implants put in (and a bone graph) and I was off for 3 weeks before I was strong enough to go back to school. I had a lot of swelling, but with you only having 2 done, your swelling shouldn't be too unbearable.

As for the process, it's about 6 months wait between placing the posts and when you get the crowns. This is not only because of healing, but there's always a chance that an implant is rejected. Out of 16, i only had one reject so the chances of that happening are probably fairly slim for you. You won't be able to wear your flipper after the posts are in, but you will be able to see the posts when you smile so it'll look like you have 2 silver teeth. I looked like I had a grill going on.
I wish you a speedy and painless recovery.

Implants are a long process. The implant screw has to be placed, then there's a healing period. Then you have an abutment and a crown placed over the implant. I would call your dentist to see if s/he can give you an accurate time frame.
