Can I ask the dentist to not put the numbing paste stuff on before the Novocain !

Question: Can I ask the dentist to not put the numbing paste stuff on before the Novocain shot?
I asked this before, but got only one answer. =/

=) Can I ask the dentist to not put the numbing cream on my gums before he injects the novocain? I don't like the taste of it on my gums, and he usually accidentally gets it on my tongue. If the numbing cream doesn't serve a purpose over than my not feeling the novocain needle, can I just not get it? Needles don't bother me at all.

Answers:

Yes. It's pretty pointless, anyway. The pain from the injection doesn't really come from the needle itself, but the pressure caused by forcing all that fluid into a tiny space. I'm sure he won't be offended if you tell him you prefer not to have it.

not only can you ask him to skip the numbing paste but you can also ask him to skip out on the novacain. he can't give you any form of drug you dont want him to. its a patient's choice as to what drugs they are given as long as they are in a sound state of mind.

Hello
yes of course you can ask your dentist not to use the numbing cream. He is there to help you and do what you want. You are the patient and in control. I have the numbing cream but it does not make any difference to me when being injected. Hope your appointment goes well .

Take care

myself as I have had loads of dental work done

im pretty much you can, i hated getting the shot in general, so i asked my dentist not to use anything.. lol big big mistake.. i made it half way through ..

but yeah, tell them and im sure they wont use it

You certainly can if the feeling of the needle prick does not bother you.
