Maxillofacial surgeon, DDS or MD?!

Question: Maxillofacial surgeon, DDS or MD?
I'm currently studying pre dental biology getting ready to go to dental school. I plan on becoming a maxilo facial surgeon. I hear that one you do, you are both an MD and DDS, is this true? And what do you become once you upgrade to cosmetic Maxillofacial? Thank you.

Typically, maxillofacial surgeons usually get there dental degree first (DDS) and then go through more extensive, surgical training. a lot of maxillofacial surgeons have this after there name: DDS, MS meaning they got a Masters after dental school. main point: to become an oral surgeon, you need to become a dentist and then you usually do residency in oral/maxillofacial surgery (and then if you choose to, you can get a Masters).

After that, if you want to go into cosmetic facial surgery (or any other sub-specialty), you would undergo another year or 2 of training in that sub-specialty.

Some programs, do integrate a MD degree. In the US though, there really isn't a difference if you choose to do a dual program...
