Question: Dentist fear? Okay so I know i'm not the only one. But I am really deathly afraid haven't been in two years an?
Okay so I know i'm not the only one. But I am really deathly afraid haven't been in two years and now I really need work done. But I'm so scared as I've always had very bad experience. For example when I was 7 my dentist filled a milk tooth which led to a cavity in the adult tooth that had to have a root canal. Which led to the middle of my tooth falling out whilst chewing some gum.

Also when I went for th joyus root canal I was reffered to a hospital as I HAVE to be sedated. But this hospital also took out another a tooth one which my Dentist saw no problem with.

I'm an nhs patient and I know I need dental work as two of my teeth are destroyed and I'm just so scared I need advice please how to ask for help and what too ask for.

I totally understand you but please believe me when i say that it does not hurt. I have a dental phobia too but i still go every 6 months for a check up. I would rather go through the dentist chair than have rotten teeth. Nothing beats a healthy smile!

Do you have a doctor you like? If not ask your friends for recommendations instead of choosing blindly from the yellow pages. Be honest with your doctor. If you're upfront about your fears your doctor will be understanding and help you through the process.

I understand how you feel. I feel the same, I have a big phobia... I hate going to the dentist but it is necessary to go. Relax, and tell them how you feel so that they help you feel comfortable. Good luck.

I'm really sorry to hear you've had bad experiences in the past but there is only one thig you can do, and that is go, and go regularly so that any work that needs doing is small. The longer you leave it, the bigger the problem is and which in turn makes the whole experience worse than it has to be. Whether you're nhs or private makes no difference. A dentist is a dentist not who's paying them. I've been a dental nurse for 10 years now. I'm not scared to go as I know it's safe but nearly everybody I see is scared. You are not alone but please go!!

I am a dental nurse

I also have a phobia of dentists, I have not been for around two years either since she said that I need a filling I stopped going considering I have never had anythings but check ups before, I seem to be going fine, but if its getting so bad you can't bare it i'm afraid you'l have to try your best to overcome this fear try reading into how to deal with phobias such as this one, you may find a way to stop yourself being so scared, I hope this helps.

Hi ,

I know how you feel. I like many others have an adverse fear of the dentist which is due to a really frightening experience when I was a kid. I used to have sleepless nights and break out in cold sweats just thinking about it. That is until my friends told me about a youtube video which I related to and I got a hold of a Free Fear report which helped me to address my fear to take action.

I found a really sympathetic dentist who helped me step by step encouraging me to get the treatment I needed.

I no longer have teeth or gums problems and have got to the stage that seeing the dentist is just not such an ordeal now. This has also helped my friends and I can assure you that I was the dentist's worse patient. Not now and if you are truly phobic and afraid of the dentist get to see the video and the report is life changing.

Whatever teeth problems you have then only solution is by seeing your dentist of finding one who you relate to.

See if you relate to the video below and if so get the report which helped me to get my teeth sorted and overcome my fear. I know it will help you.

Do not suffer any longer. Get your smile back.
All the best, and keep smiling ok?

Call around to different dental offices and ask questions of the receptionist. Does your employer take scared patients, Is he/she gentle? Would you recommend him/her to their family? Also ask friends for a recommendation. When you decide on someone make an initial appointment for a checkup. Make sure the dentist understands how scared you are. If you are still uneasy or just don't like that dentist try someone else. If your teeth are as bad as you say be prepared, there will be some pain, but the dentist can usually minimize that. I worked in a couple different dental offices (quite some time ago), and the dentists' all have different personalities. Find someone you can work with.

I was just like you. I hadn't been to a dentist since the mid 90's following a massive dental extraction by a butcher of a dentist in greater Manchester. He knocked me out took 6 teeth away and let me go home on the bus back to Glossop Derbyshire! I did not go back to a dentist until the beginning of this year when I found a lovely one in Buxton where I now live. I told him about my phobia and he has been so understanding and patient. I had to have three more out which were broken three fillings and dentures, he was amazing. I look and feel so much better for all the work he's done in helping me conquer my fear and giving me my smile back
So go back to your dentist and tell him/her exactly how you feel and ask them to be patient and take their time with you.
It will be worth it
My friends are giving me a makeover in the next couple of weeks in celebration of me overcoming my phobia and my friend going to take some photographs of me that is something I have not allowed him to do for over 10 years I'm looking forward to the makeover and photos I can tell you!!
