You shouldn't feel any pain but you will feel pressure.

If they give you local anesthetic you will be wide awake and aware of what's going on, but you should be numb in the area where they are extracting your tooth.

If you have general anesthetic you will be put under so you shouldn't feel anything.

Ok so I had an extraction done about 3 hours ago so this info is fresh:) I was freaked out as I am a hypochondriac, but even I started to relax after the jelly was put on. First they put slightly numbing jelly on the teeth to prep for the novocaine. Afterwards, they let it sit for a few minutes then start the novocaine. Novocaine is several shots around the extraction site. It causes your mouth to feel fat and puffy and you don't really move that side when you talk. Yes, it is very uncomfortable and the needle for Novocaine is unfelt although you can feel the medicine flowing through at the injection site which is more painful on top. After that sits for about 5-10 minutes they begin the pulling. First, they measure and pick at it. After, they push and pull the tooth until it comes out. Sorry if you're queasy, because you can very well hear the tooth ripping from it's roots, but as soon as it's out (that part takes virtually no time at all) they give you gauze and you can leave. They give you a following care sheet on your way out that you should be sure to follow. The tooth/teeth socket(s) will be slightly sore after the novocaine starts to wear off, but it shouldn't be excruciating. Good Luck!!

went and had it done 3 hours ago
