What's happening to my tooth?!

Question: What's happening to my tooth?
Well, a little background info will go a long way.

I was in a car accident about two months ago and one of my tooth became fractured, but now it's stable again.
Two weeks ago or so, there were dark spots near the side and bottom of one of my tooth (probably where the tooth was hurt, but why did this occur like two months later?). When I went to the dentist, my dentist told me that it was normal for my tooth to change color because after a traumatic event, it was bound to be "dying", and that I would need a root canal. I've brushed my teeth everyday two times a day, and have been taking care of them more after the accident, I admit.

Thing is, I scheduled for an appointment for the dentist to examine it first, but I didn't go and this week, I've noticed that the dark spot around the side is slowly fading away?
Is it that my tooth isn't dying or what?

Your description doesn't match any process of nerve necrosis. Can you post a photo?

I am a dentist

It looks like your teeth is recovering from the incident. That's what you're seeing.
