Answers:

Dr. Brianna is being irresponsible and professionally NEGLIGENT in recommending antibiotics in the absence of uncontrolled infection. Too many physicians, and dentists as well, prescribe antibiotics unnecessarily and when none is indicated thinking that it is some miracle drug that will cure anything and everything. The American Heart Association has even revised their guidelines for pre-medication to prevent antibiotic overuse. Most doctors do not seem to realize that the more a patient takes antibiotics, the more sensitized he/she becomes. In other words, one becomes more and more allergic to it so that when a life threatening situation should arise in the future, antibiotics may not be able to be taken.

A tooth that hurts enough to take the amount of analgesics you are almost certainly means that the nerve is in the process of dying. A root canal is indicated if so but antibiotics is not indicated and taking one will not reverse any nerve damage. Nerves in teeth seldom can be healed once they begin to die. An antibiotic is indicated when there are signs that the body is unable to handle an infection on its own and that usually shows up as an uncontrolled swelling from the abscess.

As long as you don't take more than 8 of the Excedrin Extra Strength in 24 hours, you should be fine. I would wait to take any hydrocodone until it's been 12 hours since you took Excedrin to be on the safe side. After that, you need to take the hydrocodone as directed on your prescription and NO MORE than is recommended.

Have you been taking the antibiotics? If not, you could get a really unpleasant infection and end up needing a root canal, so I really hope you're taking the antibiotics.
