My orthadontist said i have an overbite, but then said i didn't need bottom!

Question: My orthadontist said i have an overbite, but then said i didn't need bottom braces?
Its a very small overbite.
But then how is he going to fix it? and wil he?
or well he put elastics on my teeth somehow anyway?

Answers:

When you have an overbite it means that your upper teeth come forward too much so they need to pull them back. It has nothing to do with your bottom teeth, just the upper.

When you get braces, they glue these little bead things to each of your teeth. And each of those beads has a groove in it so they can pop in a wire that will connect all of your teeth. And then they put bands over top to secure the wire to the beads.

The wire is the part that makes your teeth move. They'll bend it in a way that will make your teeth move in the direction that they want, and then pop the wire into your mouth. Your teeth will be sore for the first few days, but just take some tylenol or advil and you'll be find. Just eat really soft foods. Then once your teeth adjust to that wire, they'll have you come in again and give you a new wire that will move your teeth some more. It's a slow process that moves your teeth little by little.

sometimes people get little extra things that help to move your teeth in different ways, but that's totally up to your orthodontist.

Don't panic, it's not as bad as it sounds. I've had them and lots of people have had them. You'll be fine!

you should ask your orthodontist whether he will fix it, i can't read minds. but a very small overbite is pretty normal. according to wikipedia, 3-5mm. it's probably up to you whether he fixes it or not; it can cost a ton of money to get braces, though, so if your teeth look fine you may not want to bother unless he recommends for health reasons. not sure what you mean by elastics; invisalign is always an option, too.

personal exp, wikipedia

Seems like jaw surgery might help. If it's not bothering you then leave it alone.
