Can you get braces with molars missing?!

Question: Can you get braces with molars missing?
okay, i'm 15, and I have to get two of my molars pulled out. (Both first molars, at the top) and I am going to have spaces, which I don't want. Can I get braces to close those gaps?

Answers:

Well it wouldn't hurt for you to have a consultation but you should look into implants really. Dental implants last a very, very long time and they are more solid than regular teeth. It's a lot faster than having braces too.

Is something wrong with the molars? It's almost unheard of to pull 1st molars unless they are broken/decayed/defective. The norm is to pull 1st bicuspids, if any teeth need to be pulled. If the molars are bad and need to be removed, they may be able to close the spaces by pulling the 2nd molar forward, then ideally the 3rd molars will come in behind them. Hard to say exactly without knowing your full situation. You can always get a second opinion; you would just need to take existing x-rays and mouth molds to another orthodontist and it will probably be no charge for the opinion.
