You can eat right after getting them. It may be painful though!
Fluoride treatment has nothing to do with braces. Fluoride treatment is used topically in office after a teeth cleaning. Normally shouldn't eat for 30 minutes. You can eat right away if you can. The problem after your ortho appointment is that the new metal wire tempts to move your teeth to a different position which causes pain. During the first couple days try eating soft foods and drink lots of water. Once the pain is gone you can start your normal food habits.
Again you can eat anything as long as you are comfortable with it.

I've had braces twice, and when they feel comfortable, you can eat.
*BY THE WAY, im getting Gum surgery in two weeks, since my periodontist said that braces screwed up my gums
you can eat whenever you want. just beware it will be hard to eat for about a week.
you can eat right after you get braces put on as long as you haven't had a fluoride treatment.
