There really isn't a good gum for braces to be chewing. I've been told sugar free but there really is no difference, I've had braces for 6 years and not once has anything happened to them while I have been chewing gum. It actually is a lot safer than chewing on a pen or pencil (coming from experience of course) any gum should be fine, just stay away from cheap gums that get really sticky toward the 1/2 hour mark. cause it's a pain to get out of brackets.
