Im going out tonight and i dont want to wear my retainer?!

Question: Im going out tonight and i dont want to wear my retainer?
Tonight im going to a party and i dont want to wear my retainer. My orthodonist said i have to wear it 12 - 16 hours a day and thats including sleeping. So If i dont wear it tonight but if i do sleep in it tonight for lets say 8 hours, couldnt i just wear it tomorrow for an extra 4 - 8 hours to make up for it? Also i looked on the internet and alot of people said you have to wear it 24/7 but she only said i have to wear it 12 - 16 hours?

Just wear it before or after the party. Also missing a couple hours shouldn't be bad if you normally wear it the advised amount.

Hello..When braces are first removed the patient needs to wear the retainer 24/7 for the first three to four months, except for cleaning of course. That is the time period required to allow the gum bone to stabilize around the teeth. Once that has been accomplished, most people can do very well wearing their retainer 8 to 10 consecutive hours out of each 24. Those hours can be at night or during the day time. It's also good to put the retainer in when traveling or watching TV. Failure to wear the retainer enough consecutive hours will result in the teeth migrating back to where they started from....As for the party, it shouldn't be an issue as long as you keep track of the time element. Good luck and I wish you well
