Why do my teeth hurt when I wake up?!

Question: Why do my teeth hurt when I wake up?
Usually when I wake up, my teeth and gums hurt in the morning. More specifically, my front two teeth hurt the most. I figured this was from lack of brushing, and have started to brush every morning when I wake up, and every night when I go to sleep.
However, the first day that I did this, my teeth/gums were in considerable pain. My gums had swollen very slightly, and hurt to touch. My toothbrush became covered in blood upon brushing, and I did not brush hard.
This is still happening, some days, and I'm wondering what's going on with my mouth/teeth. Does anybody know why?

oh i have some great problems on my own. i grind my teeth like a maniac when asleep. i have nightmares every night ever since i was a young child and in addition to that, i will write my final exams soon. my dentist told me that once my stress diminishes, there will be a good chance of my teeth grinding to stop too. but you might also have some kind of gum disease, i would go to a dentist and ask for advice there to be safe.

If you don't brush your teeth on a regular basis, your gums get soft, and you can get gingivitis which is a buildup of bacteria that starts to eat away at your gums.

Since you recently started brushing your teeth morning & night, it will take some time before your gums toughen up. Yes, they will bleed for a while but over time, it will stop and your teeth will strengthen.

If it concerns you greatly, I would suggets having a consultation with a dentist. Let him/her look over your teeth and gums and let you know what they thing the best course of action should be.

Good luck.

You probably grind your teeth when you are sleeping. I would go to a dentist/doctor to rule out any illness that can cause that. But for the teeth grinding, you can get a teeth guard at a pharmacy.

I know when i wake up my teeth hurt and its because i grind my teeth in my sleep. So you could be grinding your teeth.
