Why is it that braces are more noticeable on some people than others?!

Some people can barely close their mouths over their braces and other people's braces are only noticeable when they smile. I will have to get them and it's really gutting me because I'm an attractive 24-year-old woman and it's devastating me the idea that I won't be able to date for 2-3 years. I think it would hurt me less if I were tomboyish and plain looking, but I work in the clothing/fashion industry and I had an eating disorder when I was younger and I have finally gotten to the point that I'm convinced that I'm not fat and ugly (I'm 5'6 and a size 6). I've never dated before and I'm afraid I'll miss my chance to meet someone and settle down. My mother's from the Middle East, so I have big eyes, high cheekbones and full lips. How noticeable will it be? My top adult canines were impacted and now they've started growing in at weird angles. I still have my baby canine so I will have gaps in my smile between when they're yanked and when the teeth get moved over far enough
