What causes tooth crowding?!

Question: What causes tooth crowding?
Just wondering.

I have crowded teeth and my orthodontist wanted to remove my premolars to create space, but I didn't let him due to the risks of TMJ disorder.

But I would like to know why my teeth even are crowded? Is it because I haven't looked after them properly?

Answers:

Crowding is due to undersized jaws not having enough room to allow teeth to line up properly. Given enough room, teeth will almost always come through straight. Undersized jaws can be expanded to their genetic potential to gain room to uncrowd teeth and that is a much better method to use than to pull perfectly good teeth.

Good for you for refusing to have your premolars extracted!! Your reward will be a much more beautifule facial profile and no TMJ problems to contend with.

functional orthodontics; treated TMJ since 1984

Everyone has the same number of adult teeth. Crowding occurs because you simply have a smaller jaw. It's very common, and most people who get braces need to get a couple teeth removed. It has nothing to do with improper dental care. There just isn't enough space in your mouth for all your teeth, something that is extremely common now.

i have this done when i was young i had 8 teeth out to make way for big teeth...

u looked after them fine your tooth probably comes up at different places.

its got nothing to do with u how carefully u or how negative u have been...

even now im an adult my crazy dentist pulled 5 of my healthiest teeth out cause she thought it was over crowding in my short small mouth... now im gummy....

i don't know what TMJ is so i cant say about it. sorry...
