Why is this happening to me? BEST ANSWER 10 POINTS!?!

Question: Why is this happening to me? BEST ANSWER 10 POINTS!?
I've had my braces off for more than a year now...first two weeks I wore my retainer all day then I moved to only nightly (which is what my ortho told me). However, every onces in a while when I put my bottom retainers in its very painful and it happens for like a week then it goes away and comes back like 2 months later. It is kinda difficult to put them in and it hurts, my gums to the left side behind my teeth is the only place it hurts and gets swollen. Why does this happen? Should I wear my bottom retainers all day for a couple of days?

Wear your retainer(s) ALL day, and then take them out at night as instructed. If the pain continues after a week, call your orthodontist. There is a good chance your teeth could be moving back and you might need to wear your retainer more often. Or he/she might get you a new retainer all together, because that may be the problem. But generally, discomfort from the retainer after braces is teeth moving.
I hope this helped, and good luck!

talk to your doctor and explain what is happening so he/she can fix it, because that does not seem normal. i have a retainer and that never happens to me.

Possibly try wearing it for a extra 4 hours. If that dosent help, then go to 6 hours. It seems like its happening because your teeth are shifting.
