Is this normal for wisdom teeth extraction?!

Question: Is this normal for wisdom teeth extraction?
I had all 4 impacten wisdom teeth pulled on the tenth and the recovery process has been fairly painful especially on the left side of my jaw. I've been prescribed vicodin and I took it intermittently with ibuprofen for the first couple of days, and then yesterday I decided from then on I would only take ibuprofen during the day and take the vicodin at night when the pain really starts getting to me. This morning, 4 days after my surgery, I woke up with a huge dark bruise on the left side of my jaw and both of my cheeks are really red, swollen, and flushed, They've been swollen ever since I had my surgery, but the bruising and the redness definitely wasn't there before. Is it possible I have an infection? I've been taking penicillin 4 times a day since the surgery because my dentist said it would help prevent infection, and I've been sticking to a diet of primarily pudding, milkshakes, and soup so I don't think anything has gotten stuck in the sockets. My dentist isn't open until tomorrow at 10 so I can't really call and ask for advice. Should I be worried or is this normal?

Hello, I'm an hygienist and would call your oral surgeon tomorrow. Bruising and swelling are all normal after oral surgery, since these teeth were impacted I'm not surprised actually, but I am more concerned you still need the Vicodin. By day four you should really only need an NSAID like ibuprofen. Take the ibu every 4 to 6 hours whether you feel you need it or not.. in a few days you should be off the ibuprofen too. Vicodin very addictive try to get rid of that stuff. None of the offices I every worked for would prescribe that. Would you say the pain is worse than initially? Or is it slowly improving? Be on the lookout for dry socket which usually happens around day 3 or 4. Follow all your post-op instructions. Absolutely no smoking or using straw etc.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 3 months ago and all i had was some jaw pain and a little swelling. I would think that bruising and flushed cheeks is not normal.

I would call your dentist as soon as possible and tell him whats going on and see what he says.
