You get an x-ray if the dentist finds a cavity. This is to find out how deep the cavity is.
Bitewing x-rays are usually taken once a year. They are the xrays where you bite down on a tab of paper sticking out. They usually take 4 xrays.
Full mouth xrays or Pano's are usually taken once ever 3-5 years.
So if you had xrays at your last cleaning appointment you should be fine.
A typical person gets an FMX (full mouth xrays) every year. If you've got no current work going on (i.e. Gwtting a crown, etc..) then there's no reason for xrays every time u go in for a cleaning.

X-rays are only once a year. If you had x-rays at a previous appointment, then you won't have them until a year later.
