Tooth infection after root canal?!

Question: Tooth infection after root canal?
I had a root canal done on one of my teeth two months ago. About ten days ago it started to hurt and my gums started to swell around the tooth. The dentist said since a root canal has already been done he could not open up the tooth and work on it. So he prescribed me Clindamycin antibiotics which I'm almost done using up (6th day) and it seems that the pain has been reduced but my guess it will come back worse again after I'm done the antibiotics. I read that a tooth thats had a root canal done is a dead tooth so no blood gets in. And if no blood gets in the bacteria in the tooth can't be attacked by the antibiotics. What would be the next step if the antibiotics don't work? Pulling the tooth?

Answers:

It looks like your canals haven't been clean properly. You need to see a dentist, maybe not the same bloke. It can be opened again but it's difficult procedure and they don't like to do it.if your infection is based in the tooth not for examlpe gums this problem will come back sooner or later and they may extract your tooth. If think you need seek a second opinion.Good luck!

My personal experience.
