Tooth hurts after getting cavity filled?!

Question: Tooth hurts after getting cavity filled?
Today I got a cavity filling at the dentist, (it was one of my front teeth.)

Before, it used to bother me a lot, and I had a sore/sensitive/stinging kind of feeling where the cavity was. So I made an appointment to get it taken care of before it turned into something worse.

After filling the cavity, my dentist said under his breath "That cavity was deep... good thing we got this taken care of now."

Now, 4 hours later, the novocaine has worn off, and that sore/sensitive/stinging feeling is back, where my cavity was filled.

Should it be feeling this way?

It may feel weird for a few days, especially the front teeth (they are very sensitive). I've had several fillings (unfortunately) and know that they can feel weird or hurt for a few days afterward.

Much after that, I would call the dentist.

Take some pain medicine & get some rest!

Wait and see how things are tomorrow when you get up. If still sore, call the dentist tomorrow afternoon and see if you need to go in. Deep cavity is also a cause for almost a root canal. But, if he got the cavity done without a root c, then I guess he knows what he is doing.

The cavity may have been near the nerve of the tooth. It can sometimes have bacteria pass into the nerve and pulp causing a abscess and pain.
You need to go back asp and have it looked at by your dentist.
