How can I convince my parents to get my teeth fixed!? PLEASE HELP!! :(?!

Question: How can I convince my parents to get my teeth fixed!? PLEASE HELP!! :(?
So a few days ago my friends and I had our winter formal (trust me it makes sense!) when i looked at the pics we took... my teeth looked AWFUL! my teeth are all spaced and have bumps and one is back and the rest are forward... and UGH i have ALWAYS hated how my teeth have looked and never have had anything done...
Now that im in high school all my friends have nice straight teeth.... and i really want that...

I am REALLY considering getting invisalign... my friend and I went to her ortho and i asked him and he said i could possibly get invisalign... So i really wanna ask my mom to get a consulation...

my mom says i dont need braces or anything because my teeth are fine... well no they arent and i dont want to wait forever to get them done... so how can i convince my parents to get a free consultaion??

I know braces are REALLY expensive... But i know it is really worth it in the end anyways... i dont know if we have insurance and hell we dont have the money...

thanks to all of you in advance... :)

Answers:

Of course you can call a orthodontist, explain the situation. We usually ask the parents to stay in a first consultaion, for many reasons: explain how can the maloclusion can interfer in your healht now, and in the future. What exactly you have, and, how to fixe and the importance to do. So, your parents will explain how much they can pay, and, if is possible. Just a clear conversation. The interesting is not only yours, belive, the orthodontist usually want help as possible, and, your parents aren′t dentitry, they really think that you are nice, they don′t know what is behind and the consequences of maloclusion! Call your orthodontist and explain what you are needind!

Wait until you have your own money before asking your parents to pay for cosmetic medical procedures.
Insurance does not cover braces at all, even if you have dental insurance. It would cost about $5,000 on average for braces.
Yes, everyone now has rows of teeth like hybrid corn. It is fake just like all the boobs on the skinny chicks and the noses and stomachs, and even skin and hair. It is refreshing and amazing to see someone who is not fake for once.
In any case, if you want cosmetic work done, pay for it yourself!

Um my insurance covers braces
they must have different insurances
but i would talk too your parents about

I’m a dentist.

First off, let me say that I really empathize with your situation, and hope that things turn out well for you.

Unfortunately, parents don’t always know what’s best for their kids. And where dentistry is concerned, most parents are grossly lacking in knowledge.

The reality is that teeth serve a much greater purpose than simply chewing. They serve an enormous role in one’s physical appearance. Ask any psychiatrist, pediatrician, dermatologist, or psychologist and they will readily agree that physical appearance is very important in a child’s self-esteem and, in-turn, their self-esteem as adults.

Above is just one of many research articles addressing this issue.

There’s more to it than that, however. Having straight teeth is not just a cosmetic issue, it’s also a health issue. Teeth that are misaligned and crowded are much more prone to developing cavities and periodontal disease, and are more prone to injury, inappropriate wear, and are at greater risk of being lost over time.

I really feel for you, kiddo. You have a few options in front of you.

1. Get your general dentist to explain these points to your parents and convince them to take you to an orthodontist.

2. Save your money and wait until you’re 18 (and able to make your own health care decisions), and then pay for braces (or Invisalign) yourself.

3. Find a general dentist who provides Invisalign. If I’m not mistaken, they tend to charge a bit less than orthodontists do. This is assuming, however, that your orthodontic problems can be treated with Invisalign.

Regardless of the way you go, I think if you explain your situation to the doctor, you’ll find that they’ll try to help you out.

One final note: you can get braces at pretty-much any time of your life. Don’t assume that only teenagers can be treated. If you need to wait until you’re 20, then so be it. One way or another, come hell or high water, if you want straight teeth, you can have them!!

Needless to say, you need to take excellent care of your teeth in the meantime! Floss, brush three times a day, use fluoride mouth rinse, get regular dental check-ups, and avoid snacking and sugary drinks.

Q: What are the benefits of braces?
A: Straight teeth and a beautiful smile are among the well-known benefits of braces. But orthodontic treatment also aims to provide a proper bite for chewing, facilitate maintenance for healthy teeth, gums, bone and jaw joint, as well as to improve self-esteem and overall psycho-social health and well-being.

Q: Who needs Orthodontics and when?
A: Studies show that millions of Americans (including 75% of children) have oral health problems that could benefit from orthodontic treatment. Without treatment, many could develop more serious problems, including: cavities, tooth loss, diseased gums, bone destruction, and joint problems. Although there is not a universal best age to begin orthodontic treatment, the AAO recommends that every child see an orthodontist at an early age. This could be as young as 2 or 3, but should be no later than age 7. Although many people associate orthodontic treatment with adolescence, orthodontists can spot subtle problems with jaw growth or with the teeth much earlier, even while the primary (or baby) teeth are still present. However, a visit at any age is advisable if a particular problem has been noted by the parent, family dentist or child's physician.

Honestly, if money is a problem, it is going to be really hard to convince them about getting you Invisalign. Invisalign is usually far more expensive than traditional braces. You will have a better chance getting them to agree with you for normal braces, or even ceramics that aren't noticable.

Invisalign is a huge commitment and you really need to be mature to have it. You need to wear it for 20-22 hours a day, if you don't it will not work. You need to pop them out to eat and drink anything except pop, then go brush and floss your teeth and pop them back in. You will definitely need to wear it in school (I know of some people who are not mature and don't wear it to school so they don't get results). If you go on a date, you will need to wear them, unless you don't plan on eating that day except on the date. Also they are not hat invisible like the marketing says. There will be attachments that are tooth colored bumps on some of your teeth. For me, I had 7 and my teeth were not even that bad.

The best way to convince your parents is to show them the pictures that you were looking at and tell them how you feel about them. Point out the areas in your teeth that you feel looks aweful and explain that you will feel better if you get them fixed. Since you are in high school, your the right age to get a job. You could offer to get one and help pay if they are really worried about the money.
