my teeth moved now what?!

Question: My teeth moved now what?
ok so its a long story. i had a retainer right when my braces came off. that retainer got lost so i had to get a new one. I had my new retainer for about a year then it broke. about a week before breaking i found my old retainer that i thought i lost. My orthodontist told me if it still fits me i can wear the old one. ive been wearing my old one for about 2 months now but ive noticed that my teeth have shifted and moved. Well only my front tooth. What should i do buy a new retainer?? but if i do get a new one will my teeth shift back or will they just stay how they are and not move at all? or should i get my retainer that broke fixed so i can wear that one instead?? I just want my teeth to shift back to how they were when i got my braces off. Or will i just have to get braces again to shift my teeth back. They havent shifted alot its just my front tooth that shifted a bit.

I’m a dentist.

The old retainer should be designed to fit your teeth immediately after you got your braces.

A little bit of shifting here and there is no big deal. If it’s a tiny amount, the old retainer may tweak them back into their original position. It may not though. I can’t say without seeing your mouth personally.

If you’re not happy with the way your teeth look now, some orthodontic “touch up” work can be performed with a short course of Invisalign therapy. Otherwise, I’d recommend that you continue to wear your old retainer in order to prevent your teeth from shifting any further.
