Should I use mouthwash before or after I whiten my teeth?!

Question: Should I use mouthwash before or after I whiten my teeth?
I'm using just some Crest Whitestrips, and they make my teeth pretty sensitive. I heard that using mouthwash can combat this, but do I use it before each treatment or after?

You could maybe go with a toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

Unfortunately whitening causes sensitivity since it's stripping a layer of your teeth away. Using a toothpaste like Sensodyne might help out. I wouldn't recommend using a mouthrinse after whitening-especially if it's a colored rinse. The dentist I used to work for would always tell patients to avoid doing that since your teeth can pick up some of the dye in the rinse.

I’m a dentist.

I’d say after, although it probably doesn’t make a hell of a lot of difference. The idea is that you should have plenty of topical fluoride exposure (i.e. via the mouthwash) when in in the process of whitening your teeth.

After. Whitening your teeth might remove the mouthwash from them, defeating one of the main purposes of mouthwash.

Wait about 45 minutes after the strips and then use the mouthwash.

after
