Question: My 2yr old has gum infection and dentist wants to do a root canal Help?
My 2yr old daughter has swollen gums and is in so much pain! I need some help figuring out what to do. I have her on antibiotics to take the swelling away but her teeth are very bad, What can happen next? What should i do next?

Answers:

You need to have infection treated right away. It doesn't happen very often but an infection in the mouth can go to the brain and cause death ( there was a story all over the news a while back) Baby teeth don't have full root canals like adult teeth. Its as esy as a filling the dentist opens a hole in the tooth leading to the pulp (nerve) chamber puts medicine in to kill the nerve and closes it w a silver filling or silver cap. You may have to take her to a pedodontist due to her age. Get her decay fixed then watch her diet. Limit sugar i.e candy and juice. If she does have a treat make sure she rinses her mouth out after. Brush her teeth for her faithfully every night and ask your dentist for a high fluoride toothpaste or rinse meant for children. Antibiotics will only releive the infection temporarily. Tylenol or baby motrin for pain. Good luck

Let the dentist repair her teeth and follow the dentists instructions. If she needs a root canal then she should get one. She needs to keep her primary(baby) teeth in place to hold a correct spot for the permanent(adult) teeth. If you remove the primary teeth the permanent teeth may not come in correctly and she may have malocclusion so she would then need orthodontic treatment.

Make sure you are brushing and flossing her teeth until she has the dexterity to do it on her own which usually happens at about 5 or 6 for brushing and 7 or 8 for flossing.

antibiotic will decrease the infection but you need to get treatment as the permanent tooth will erupt after 6 yrs of age.save the milk tooth and take care of her brushing habits.
night time brushing is a must.

Have you not been brushing her teeth? Did you not clean her gums as a baby..

If this is true it is from YOUR neglect..

Clean your babies mouth!!

Well... Did you neglect to brush her teeth? that's horrible.
