is it ok to use toothpaste on my face instead of aftershave?!

Question: Is it ok to use toothpaste on my face instead of aftershave?

today i shaved my face and i didn't have aftershave and my face becomes very dry if i don't use aftershave so i put a little of toothpaste (colgate maxfresh) on my face and rubbed it and really burned :D but my face become very cool and fresh. can toothpaste damage skin?

I don't suggest toothpaste, but i have used conditioner before! it softens the hairs and is gentler...
