How to use Red Cross Toothache?!

Question: How to use Red Cross Toothache?
We are trying to take out a tooth, but it doesn't numb it. So are we not supposed to use it or our we doing it wrong. The directions say "Rinse tooth with water to remove any food particles from the tooth. Using tweezers immerse cotton pellet in medication. To prevent dripping , squeeze gently between fingers to remove excess liquid. Place pellet in tooth cavity for one minute without touching surrounding tissues, then remove." For one, do we remove the tooth with the cotton numb, and how far in do we put in the the cotton medicine to numb the tooth. If you can help in any way feel free to comment. Sorry for the excess detail.

You should not be using that medicine or attempting to remove a tooth at home. The medicine is a eugenol based which will basically soothe the nerve of the tooth if it has a cavity and until you are able to be treated by a dentist. This is not a replacement for novacaine and therefore will not numb your tooth and attempting to extract a tooth at home you could end up with a very serious infection. If you are in that much pain and think the tooth needs to come out go to your local ER or call the hospital in your area and ask if there is a dental clinic if you can not afford to see a private dentist.
