underbite, over bite?!

Question: Underbite, over bite?
So i went to the dentist today and they said I had over bite? or underbite, im not sure but they want me to get braces. I dont see anythin wrong with my teeth. They say my lower teeth should behind my top teeth because thats "normal" So when I smiled My top layer and bottom layers are not under or over each other, their just straight and on top of each other. Like Straightly. I can move my bottom layer a little bit out but cant move it in VERY LITTLE. When I smile, the bottom layer is a little in but they said its not enough. If it doesnt effect me, should I get braces? im 17 and DO NOT WANT THEM AT ALL. Would my teeth be ugly later on or cause pain? If so how bad can it actually get? I dont want to get them unless I really have too. PLease help?

Better to get the braces to correct the underbite. Things could be worse - you could be in my situation and needing not only braces, but also surgery to correct your underbite.

The problem with your teeth is not that they are bad, but they're not aligned properly. The front teeth should overlap the front teeth just slightly. The best way to describe this is to get a pair of scissors. Notice how the blades don't hit each other? They overlap very tightly so that they can cut paper. This is what you're trying to achieve with your teeth to help you better cut through, chew and digest food. Better to deal with a few months of braces than have to deal with bigger problems later in life.

I'm a former dental assistant.

Braces aint that bad at all they dont hurt well they didnt hurt me they just felt a lil pressure & they wont make ur teeth look ugly if u dnt want people to notice them then get the clear kind!

I got braces & a expander
