What should I do when a Dentist is overcharging?/?!

Question: What should I do when a Dentist is overcharging?/?
I recently went for a dentist check up and he said I need a total of about $8,000 stuff done to my teeth???Keep in mind I haven't been to the dentist for a while back because I was dead broke in college and finally found a recently job that has some basic dental coverage...ex. cleaning twice a year

So far I got one root canal done and "deep cleaning" and he charged me $2,200 ..what the helll??? Isn't that overcharged? I asked the assistant about my insurance coverage for the cleaning and she said its because it was deep cleaning which was extra $200 on top of my insurance..I'm just soo mad because it the dentist assistant didn't even do a deep cleaning she did a regular cleaning.

What should I do ?? Aren't I getting riped off? By the way I'm curently looking for another dentist

Regular check-ups are the best way to catch problems when they're SMALL to avoid these expensive procedures. Little problems don't go away, they just get worse.
Often times the fee for deep cleaning, is charged per quadrant for such a procedure. How can you be sure they didn't do a deep cleaning when you haven't been to the dentist for a "while"?
Root canals for a 3-canal molar can be upwards of $900-$1,200. This doesn't include their core build up fee or the crown that's typically required after a root canal is performed.
In my opinion, these charges don't sound unfair. You are always entitled to a second opinion by another dentist. My recommendation if you feel like going that route is to get a copy of your x-rays and treatment plan, otherwise you'll end up being charged for them again AND your insurance won't cover them because they are only allowed every 6 mo-1 yr.
Good luck and remember most importantly to FLOSS!

the best thing you can do at this point is get a second opinion. im sorry but since they have already done the work i dont think you can really contest the bill just avoid any more procedures till you get that second opinion.

You can't do anything. You said you have basic coverage. Basic coverage doesn't cover major surgery like root canal surgery. Your not getting ripped off. Your dumb for not asking how much it would cost first. Dental work is very costly.

I think $2,200.00 is a reasonable amount of money for a root canal. Those things aren't cheap. Just find yourself another dentist if you are not happy with your current one.
