My retainer broke?!?!?!


Question: My retainer broke?!?!?
i have a removable top retainer and it has chipped plastic and a part of the wire has come unhinged or something sorry idk how to describe it.I already broke it before and was not charged but he said the next time I break it i will pay $130 or something.I'm scared to tell my mom because we don't have the money for it and i want tickets to a concert that's expensive..can this be fixed becuase the plastic is livable but the wire isn't.Can they fix the wire?

I would ask your dentist. If it's breaking because of poor design, that's your dentist's responsibility to correct. Retainers should not break under normal use.

Of course, a retainer won't last forever but I would say it should work for several years, at least. You should be taking it out to eat (that could cause it to break) and you shouldn't be doing dumb things like chewing ice or hard candy with it in your mouth. If your dentist doesn't want to fix or replace it for free (sounds like he should), call your state dental society to complain (or get your parents to do it).

Do you have dental insurance? If you do than it wont really be $130 dollars.
