Dentist:is this a okay dental regime?!

Question: Dentist:is this a okay dental regime?
I would like it if a dentist could preferably help me here? Well, I am 13 and I have always kind of "obsessed" over my teeth. I had my braces taken out at new year and my teeth are perfectly straight and white. No stains or nothing. My dentist said my teeth are one of the whitest shades you can get, so there is no point in whitening them. It wont really make a difference, so I'm wasting my money.People say I am too obsessed my teeth are perfect, but I just love white straight teeth. Ok so anyway, I was wondering if I maybe brush too much? This is my regime:
Night~
I use Colgate Anti-Tartar Plus Whitening*
I brush my teeth with my electric toothbrush (Oral-B) for 3-4 minutes, if i only do it for 2 i feel like they aren't clean. And i rinse
Then i use a normal toothbrush and brush my teeth again for around a minute. Rinse
Then i floss all spaces between my teeth and the very back ones. I can't do my front six or bottom because i have a wire behind them which is coming off in march. then i rinse my teeth for any remaining plaque.
Then i use Listerine's Total Care Clean Mint mouthwash.
Morning~
Basically the same as above i just miss out the flossing i do that every night.
I brush my teeth twice a day and i eat chewing gum throughout the day as I am at school.
i was wondering if maybe this is too much and i am brushing away my enamel? And also, any recomendations to a good whitening toothpaste that also removes any plaque? I am very interested in dental stuff and I am planning on becoming one when i am older. Thanks for reading x

Hi, I am a dentist, and I'm a little concerned that you are too obsessed!
Brushing twice a day for two to three minutes with an electric brush is ideal, and if you combine this with floss (BEFORE you brush), then your oral hygiene should be excellent.
Its important to brush in a pattern to make sure you don't miss bits. I find dividing my mouth into quarters helpful, and then I brush the outsides and the insides of each quarter. I find it helps to count when I brush, as this helps concentration.
Please don't use a mouthwash every day. You have good bugs in there as well and they need to survive! BUT most importantly, if you use it, you are washing your fluoride down the sink!
Be careful about chewing gum all the time, ten minutes after you've eaten is sufficient, and then dispose of it.
Also regarding your clear bits, please watch for acid in your diet (fruit, fruit juice, soda), and the number of times you eat during the day. Research shows we can eat 4 times a day, without detrimental effects on our teeth.
I hope this helps, Peg

Yes, you are brushing too much. Proper toothbrushing takes 2 mins. Your gums will start to receed if you are using the wrong brushing technique/are brushing hard/ are using a tooth brush without 'soft' bristles.
